Willow Glen Transitional Full Home Remodel

This was the second project Top Shelf Construction completed for this family (we completely remodeled the parents’ house when they purchased it 4 years ago). Due to the family growing, the project started as a plan to open up the kitchen and living area, and then gut the hall bathroom. However, the project ended up expanding as we worked through the design process.

The owner’s family was growing and they wanted an open floor plan, so they could keep an eye on the kids. We started out by removing several walls separating the kitchen, living and dining room areas. There was a large fireplace in the middle of the room that broke up the area, so we removed the old fireplace completely. We then were able to create an open playroom for the kids which creates an end point for the living area, but also has a large arched opening for visibility.

The original plan was to create coffered ceiling in the living area, but after several revisions, we raised the whole ceiling to create a large cathedral ceiling over the whole kitchen and living area. This then allowed us to add several skylights for improved natural lighting in the space. We also added a 20’ Nano Door to bring the outdoor pool together with the open living space.

We built custom faux beams and mad the hood custom to tie in all the natural wood materials together. The kitchen table and nook area were also custom built, so the family had a nice place to eat and enjoy together. In addition, we added a whole new full bathroom, so guests could have their own shower and people who use the pool will have a place to use a restroom as well.
